Web Browser Version Against Date

I had a theory that the browser version had less to do with development and more to do with competitiveness. So I created a graph for my fellow Netizens:
graph of browser version against datetime

and uploaded it to  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Web_browser_version_against_date.svg

I think that the periods where the lines are roughly parallel the browsers are competing, or put another way, it is possible to see which browsers each are looking to compete against from the similarity of rate of increase.

So 2005 Opera reacts to the new fox-on-the-block. Then 2011 Firefox starts to try and hunt down its market share, (that Google Chrome as taken a large byte out of.)

Meanwhile IE lumbers on regardless.

Created using a perl script to process the data and the R Language (littler) to create the SVG.
